MELAKA: A couple were charged with murdering an elderly man at the Magistrate's Court here.
Muhammad Faris Amjad Jamalludin, 24, and his lover Noorbaizura Mohd Fuad, 34, were charged before magistrate Mazana Sinin on Tuesday (June 27).
No pleas were recorded.
Based on the facts of the case, both the accused had allegedly caused the death of Tan Kue Seng, 71, between 7am and 9am at the roadside of Jalan Gapam, Ayer Keroh here, on April 9.
The charge on the two was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Wardah Ishhar prosecuted while the couple were unrepresented.
The court fixed Aug 22 for next mention of the case.
No bail was granted.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Faris also faced two other charges at the Sessions Court here for allegedly robbing a 69-year-old woman and causing injuries to her as well as snatching the handbag of a 34-year-old woman.
The first charge against the accused was framed under Section 394 of the Penal Code, which carries up to a 20-year jail and whipping upon conviction.
He was also charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which, if found guilty, will face up to 14 years' jail, a fine or whipping.
Both the charges were read before judge Darmafikri Abu Adam on Tuesday (June 27).
The accused had allegedly committed the offences here at Taman Kota Laksamana on March 22 and Taman Kesidang on April 8.
The court rejected bail and fixed Aug 1 for next mention of the case.
