Motorists urged to follow traffic rules as Aidiladha exodus begins

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic along the North-South Expressway (NSE), Elite and Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway is slow along certain sections as people begin to balik kampung for the Hari Raya Aidiladha holidays.

According to the Malaysian Highway Authority, traffic was slow from Tapah toward Gopeng along the NSE at around 12.30pm on Wednesday (June 28).

It also tweeted that traffic was slow-moving from Slim River towards Sungkai.

Meanwhile, along the Elite Expressway, traffic was slow heading north from Putrajaya to Putra Heights, Putra Heights to Bandar Saujana Putra, USJ to Shah Alam and Seafield to USJ.

Along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway, traffic was slow from Gombak towards Lentang.

An accident at KM112.2 of the NSE from Bertam heading towards Sungai Petani at around 10am also caused traffic to slow down there.

PLUS also activated its SmartLane (allowing the use of the emergency lane) from KM19 to KM27 from Senai towards Kulai to alleviate traffic congestion.

The SmartLane was also activated from KM366.8 to KM354.1 of the NSE from Slim River towards Sungkai.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Comm Datuk Mat Kasim Karim advised motorists to always abide by the traffic rules to keep themselves, their loved ones and other motorists safe.

"Plan your journey carefully to avoid getting stuck in traffic and be courteous to and cooperative with other road users during your journey.

"Motorists should also place their full focus on the road and control their emotions while driving to avoid any untoward incidents," he said, adding that motorists who find themselves experiencing traffic congestion could make use of alternative routes or stop at the various rest areas.

He also advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles are well-maintained and roadworthy before beginning their journey.

"Motorists should also ensure that they have had enough rest before they start driving," he said.
