Pakatan fulfilled all election promises except one, says Negri MB

SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan government fulfilled all pledges made in its manifesto in the last general election except on maternity leave for women, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

The Mentri Besar said his administration was unable to fulfil this due to legal issues.

"My administration could not implement any new ruling (on maternity leave) as we were bound by legislation at the Federal and Public Service Department level," he told reporters when met at Wisma Negri on Wednesday (June 28).

Pakatan had at the time proposed to double maternity leave from 60 days to 120 days.

(It has since been increased nationwide from 60 to 98 days.)

Aminuddin thanked the electorate for giving Pakatan the mandate to serve for five years during which the state government achieved many firsts.

As an example, he said the state earned a record revenue of RM556mil in 2019 and last year secured investments of almost RM9bil.

"But if we are given another five years, you can see a lot more development in Negri Sembilan which will benefit the rakyat at all levels," he said.

Aminuddin had earlier sought an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir to dissolve the state legislative assembly on Saturday (July 1).

He said the state government had carried out many programmes over the past five years in all eight districts in the state.

"During the Covid-19 pandemic, we assisted many with food baskets and medical assistance.

"We even gave financial assistance to school-going children, women, youth, undergraduates, graduates and entrepreneurs," he said.

Aminuddin said civil servants were also well cared for as the state government had helped build housing projects in strategic locations, provided interest-free loans to enable them to buy cars and computers, and paid annual bonuses.

Separately, Aminuddin said his administration will assume the role of a caretaker government after the dissolution of the assembly.

"We will function as usual to ensure the public delivery system continues to operate efficiently.

"However, there will be some things that we can no longer do such as holding meetings to approve new policies," he added.
