Policeman hurt after container lorry crashes into police guard post


IPOH: A police lance corporal was hurt after a container lorry crashed into the gate and guard post at the Tapah district police headquarters.

Tapah OCPD Supt Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said L/Kpl Jovie Jihom, 23, was found trapped in the guard post and was rescued by search and rescue personnel after the incident that occurred on Wednesday (June 28) at about 1.25am.

"The victim suffered injuries to his face and left hand and has been sent to the Tapah Hospital for treatment.

"The incident also saw two motorcycles and a four-wheel-drive vehicle damaged," he said ib a statement.

"The container lorry also overturned while the driver sustained light injuries," he added.

Supt Wan Azharuddin said the matter will be investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act.

"The container lorry, which was transporting gaming chairs, was on its way to Ipoh from Kuala Lumpur before it crashed into the gate and guard post.

"The driver was brought to the narcotics unit to be tested and will be remanded," he said.
