TVET council to come under purview of DPM

PUTRAJAYA: The National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) council will now be under the purview of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, says the Human Resources Ministry.

The ministry said the decision was reached following a council meeting yesterday.

“The council will employ a simpler structure, flexible membership and increased focus on problem solving capabilities.

“This change will enable a clearer and structured approach to the implementation of initiatives for all stakeholders,” it said in a statement.

Ahmad Zahid, who chaired the meeting, also proposed the establishment of a TVET Recruitment Unit to facilitate its growth in the country.

“The unit will be in charge of ensuring that TVET programmes are able to meet the demands of the industry,” the ministry said.

Among other proposals was the establishment of a TVET programme for women in the fields of bakery, cosmetics or similar professions.

The meeting also discussed measures for the continuous improvement of the TVET ecosystem.

This included a review of the standards for TVET programmes and curriculum with improvements made from time to time to ensure they remain relevant in line with current and future demands.

After the meeting, Ahmad Zahid witnessed the exchanging of memorandums between the government with government-linked companies and private firms, aimed at ensuring continuous cooperation in the implementation of TVET programmes nationwide.

Ministers from 12 TVET-related ministries also attended the meeting.
