KOTA KINABALU: A 13-year-old boy was killed after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding and hit a divider in Labuan on Thursday (June 29).

Labuan OCPD Supt Ahmad Jawila said the victim died instantly on impact on Jalan Bukit Besar, near Simpang Bidara 57.

The police received a call at 10.20am and investigations revealed that the victim was coming from the Taman Mutiara roundabout and was heading towards Kampung Sungai Lada.

The deceased's 15-year-old cousin was riding pillion.

"The victim is believed to have lost control of the motorbike, hit the metal divider, thrown off the vehicle and died on impact.

"The cousin broke his left knee and is currently being treated at the Labuan Hospital. He is in stable condition," said Supt Ahmad.

He said the victim's body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous or reckless driving.
