KUALA LUMPUR: Despite his decision to take a break from politics, Segambut Muda secretary Hisham Hamzah says he still believes in the party’s agenda of a multiracial and progressive Malaysia.
"I do not believe in party loyalty, I am only loyal to my family, my sovereign and my country.
"Nevertheless, I believe in the party's (Muda) agenda of a multiracial and progressive Malaysia and I am also a supporter of Pakatan Harapan," he said in a statement on Thursday (June 29).
Hisham said the latest news from his party does disappoint him, "as I always believed Muda and Pakatan Harapan are natural allies, but I understand and respect the leadership's decision".
"I hold great respect for Muda secretary-general Amir Abd Hadi, deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz and, of course, party president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
"I know from my own experience the disdain that some Pakatan leaders have shown to Muda in the last year or so.
"Of course, politics is fluid and mature parliamentary democracies are full of temporary alliances and coalitions.
"This is something we all need to get used to," he said.
Hisham shared that he personally likes Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and campaigned for him and Pakatan during the 15th General Election.
"Along with so many of us, I watched with tears when he (Anwar) finally took the oath as Prime Minister," he said in a statement on Thursday (June 29).
Hisham said while it is a tough time for the country, he thinks Anwar's Cabinet is doing reasonably well.
"Not as well as some ministers claim but definitely not as badly as Perikatan Nasional paints it.
"I have full confidence in him (Anwar) to do the job," he said.
Hisham said he has had enough of fighting in the last two years, both online and offline.
"I am taking a break, and leaving this to the younger generation in my party.
"There are many young, hardworking and sincere people in Muda that I have had the privilege of knowing and working with.
"I wish them all the best in the upcoming (state) elections and the future along with Pakatan," he said.
On Monday (June 27), Muda expressed its stance to contest independently in the upcoming six state elections.
This move means Muda will face off against Pakatan, which is collaborating with Barisan Nasional against Perikatan.
Syed Saddiq said Muda is ready to face the consequences of clashing against Pakatan and Barisan Nasional in the state polls.
Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu will hold go to the polls in the coming weeks.
