Rela man at Penang office not told to enforce dress code, says Socso

PETALING JAYA: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) has denied issuing any instruction to bar visitors from entering its Penang office because of their dressing.

An internal investigation found that the Rela member on duty had acted beyond the organisation's security control procedure, Socso said in a statement on Friday (June 30).

"Socso takes seriously the issue of unexpected action by a security guard at the Penang office who prevented a customer from entering because of her dressing.

"An internal investigation conducted by Socso management found no instructions were issued by the management or the office manager to the Rela member to prevent the customer from entering the premises.

"Socso would like to emphasise that what happened was beyond the knowledge of its management.

"Subsequently, Socso took immediate action and asked the Rela member for an explanation.

"The individual has since been suspended with effect from Thursday (June 29) until the investigation is completed," it added.

On Wednesday (June 28), the organisation was taken to task over the question of whether or not security guards had been given the authority to enforce a dress code, after a woman was stopped from entering its office in Jalan Burma here for “indecent dressing”.
