Anwar: If you suspect me or my family of graft, report it

BUTTERWORTH: If he’s implicated in corruption, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says he would be more than willing to cooperate with investigations by the relevant authorities.

Anwar said even after seven months of holding the highest office in the country, no special privileges were given to his family.

“If I’m suspected of being involved in corruption, amassing money to enrich (his wife Datuk Seri Dr) Wan Azizah (Wan Ismail), Nurul Izzah or my other children, report it (to the authorities),” he said in his speech during his visit to Masjid Jamek An-Nur Kampung Guar Perahu in Kubang Semang, Seberang Prai yesterday.

Anwar said the authorities had a free hand to investigate those accused of corruption, including those from previous government administrations.

“Investigations are going on independently by the relevant authorities.

“It is not my job to investigate. Yet, people are accusing me of seeking revenge, which is not true,” he said.

Anwar added that he neither bore grudges against anyone nor had he directed anyone to be investigated for corruption.

He said the mandate of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is to investigate graft.

“That’s MACC doing its job. I did not order it,” he said.
