MCA may opt out of state polls, decision soon, says Wee


IPOH: MCA will decide whether to take part in the upcoming six state elections soon, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said discussions are ongoing among its leaders, with a statement to be released once the decision is made.

“The state elections are just around the corner.

“We cannot drag it for too long,” he told a press conference after attending the swearing-in ceremony of the new Batu Gajah MCA committee at a restaurant here yesterday.

“The decision will be made based on the views and opinions of our grassroots members, Youth and Wanita wings,” he added.

Last month, Dr Wee said the party was negotiating for seats in the elections.

During MCA’s 74th anniversary celebration in March, he had said that seat negotiations were complicated as the party has no elected representatives in the six states – Selangor, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
