Shop assistant tells court he murdered his girlfriend


IPOH: A shop assistant abruptly told a Magistrate’s Court here that he had murdered his girlfriend after being read the charge.

When asked whether he had anything to say by Magistrate Jesseca Daimis after the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code was read out, Saini Irwandy Sofian Sani, 23, told the court that he had committed the act.

Magistrate Jesseca then told the accused that no plea was supposed to be made at that point.

Saini Irwandy, who was not represented, was advised by Magistrate Jesseca to find a lawyer while all relevant medical reports were being prepared.

She set Aug 30 for mention.

Saini Irwandy was said to have murdered Shahwani Abdullah, 24, at a shophouse between 5pm on June 24 and 4.50am on June 25.

It was reported earlier that the accused had been under the influence of drugs and hit the woman with a broomstick.

The Deputy Public Prosecutor for the case was N.M. Moganaraj Mithra.
