PETALING JAYA: Operations at the country's entry points can be improved, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after making a surprise visit to the Immigration and Customs counters at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
"I found there is room for improvement to strengthen operations at the country entry points," said the Prime Minister in a Facebook post on Sunday (July 2).
He also said he took the opportunity to witness first-hand the issues or problems arising during daily operations involving tourists and foreigners as well as Malaysians.
Anwar also addressed the recent incident involving a Chinese tourist and said a thorough investigation would be conducted and the matter brought up in the upcoming Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (July 5).
He added that action would be taken against all parties involved if any inappropriate practices were uncovered that could jeopardise Immigration operations.
"The level of security and operations at the national airport will always be improved to ensure that appropriate services are provided to all," he said.
Anwar was commenting on the incident raised by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing who said a female Chinese tourist had claimed she was held up when entering Malaysia and was asked to pay to secure her release.
On Saturday (July 1), Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said it would launch a probe into allegations of corruption.
