Socso apologises over short skirt incident

PETALING JAYA: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) has apologised over the incident of a security guard barring a woman wearing a short skirt from entering its office in Penang.

In a statement from its communications and corporate affairs department, Socso said it wished to apologise for the inconvenience caused to the woman, who was accompanying a colleague.

“It was reported that the woman, who was there to register her colleague's maid for Socso protection, was earlier not allowed in by the security guard due to her dressing which he deemed improper.

“Socso views this incident seriously as it is not in line with the caring principle of the organisation. An internal investigation is underway,” it said on Friday.

It hoped the issue would not lead to any prolonged speculation which would only worsen the situation.

“Socso wishes to stress that our counters and offices are always open to the public, where the customers are our number one priority. We hope that this incident will not stop the woman or anyone else from visiting any of our 54 offices nationwide, including in Sabah and Sarawak,” added the organisation, which comes under the Human Resources Ministry.
