Ex-association director fined RM6,000 for insulting woman's modesty

KUALA LUMPUR: A former director of the KL and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall has been fined RM6,000 by a Magistrate's Court here for sending a lewd video to a woman two years ago.

Yeo Kwi Seng, 69, pleaded guilty to insulting the modesty of 53-year-old Wong Pei Huan during case mention on Wednesday (June 28).

The trial was initially scheduled to begin on Monday (July 3) with the victim, a former lawyer and the daughter of MCA central committee member Tan Sri Wong Mook Leong, scheduled to take the stand.

Yeo had pleaded guilty to sending a lewd video with the intent to insult Wong's modesty at Imbi Plaza here between May 23 and June 16, 2021.

He was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum five years' jail or a fine or both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim also ordered the accused to serve six months in jail if he failed to pay the fine.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Aisyah Mohamed Zanyuin appeared for the prosecution while lawyer Kitson Foong represented Yeo.

On May 31 last year, Yeo was charged and pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Wong Chai Sia.

He was allowed bail of RM3,000 in one surety.

It was reported last year that Wong claimed she was sexually harassed by a Chinese association leader on her Facebook account.
