IPOH: A 30-year-old mechanic in Kuala Kangsar lost about RM200,000 to a blackmailer who threatened to release a lewd video of him on social media.
Perak police chief Comm Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the victim had made 38 online transactions involving five different bank accounts.
Comm Mohd Yusri said the victim then lodged a report on Monday (July 3) afternoon.
He said the victim got to know the suspect, who called herself "Yaya", on Facebook.
"The suspect asked the victim to answer a video call, saying she wanted to show him 'something special'.
"Once he answered the call, the victim saw the suspect naked and acting provocatively," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 4).
"Unaware that he was being recorded, the victim who was beguiled by the suspect then stripped and performed some lewd acts," he said.
Comm Mohd Yusri said the victim only found out he had been caught on camera after a video clip was sent to him after the call.
"The suspect threatened to expose the video recording on social media if the man refused to pay," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion.
"People are advised not to be deceived by new acquaintances on social media into doing such things and becoming victims of blackmail," he said.
