Dr Wee to look into issues affecting Yong Peng residents

PETALING JAYA: Inadequate street lights, economic slowdown and rising cost of living – these are among the issues affecting residents of Yong Peng in Johor that need to be looked into, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Ayer Hitam MP said he would work together with the people to overcome these challenges to improve their livelihoods.

"Doing my best to listen to the views and grievances of the people as it is my responsibility as an elected representative.

"The issue raised by the residents was the lack of street lights along Jalan Utama Yong Peng, which is part of the FT1001 upgrading project currently taking place.

"They then raised concerns about the economic slowdown due to the low number of domestic and foreign tourism," he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (July 4).

Dr Wee, who is also MCA president, said residents were also feeling the financial burden of higher electricity bills, cost of living as well as the depreciation of the ringgit.

"Most importantly, we must work together in facing the challenges and economic uncertainties," he said.
