No room for graft or power abuse in NRD, says DG

PETALING JAYA: Corrupt practices and abuse of power among employees of the National Registration Department (NRD) will not be tolerated, says its director-general Zamri Misman.

The department takes the matter seriously, he said in reference to recent news reports that some NRD employees were being investigated for corruption and misuse of power.

"It is the principle of the NRD that it will not compromise in any corrupt practices and misuse of power involving its staff.

"The department remains committed to dealing with corruption... by continuous improvement of the procedures in issuing identity documents.

"We are also holding various integrity-strengthening programmes to ensure that there is no room for abuse of power," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 4).

He also reminded the public that no agents or middlemen have been appointed for any business with the NRD.

"Do not trust any service offered by irresponsible parties who charge a fee.

"Information about the procedure for applications and the fees charged can be found on the NRD portal or any of its 212 offices nationwide," he added.
