JOHOR BARU: Travellers entering Singapore via the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex will soon have a proper place to park their bicycles and electric scooters.
Johor Baru Mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman said that currently, bicycle and electric scooter users are using an area near a pedestrian bridge that links BSI and R&F Mall.
“The Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) noticed travellers leaving behind their bicycles and electric scooters along the pedestrian bridge to go across the border via the BSI.
“The bridge is not a suitable place to park bicycles and electric scooters as there are pedestrians who use the link to travel to and from BSI,” he said when met after chairing the MBJB full council meeting yesterday.
Mohd Noorazam said the city council is looking into a long-term solution instead of taking enforcement action against those who leave their bicycles and electric scooters there.
“We have identified a suitable place within BSI, which is near the bus area, for people to park their bicycles and electric scooters before continuing their journey to Singapore.
“Based on our study, the location has ample space and can accommodate many bicycles and electric scooters,” he said.
Mohd Noorazam also said to ease doing business within the city council’s jurisdiction, MBJB has made improvements to its business and advertising licence renewal process.
“Starting this month, MBJB has implemented business licence registration on a ‘date-to-date’ basis, different from the existing system which is on an annual basis.
“With this, business owners no longer have to wait for the start of the year to register their business.
“But applications for renewal must be done 30 days before their licence expires,” he said, adding that the business licence period has also been extended from one year to three years for eligible individuals.
