Woman runs amok at George Town fire station, destroys Bomba logo

GEORGE TOWN: A woman believed to be mentally unstable was arrested for destroying a Fire and Rescue Department logo at a fire station here on Monday (July 3) morning.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the 53-year-old woman was arrested after an officer from the department lodged a report.

"The incident happened at 12.43am and the suspect was found to have destroyed the department logo inside the station," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 4).

ACP Soffian said a check found the suspect was from Penang and had no criminal record.

He said a urine test found no indication of drug abuse, and added that the woman had been remanded for three days until Wednesday (July 5).

She would be referred to a psychiatric facility for evaluation and treatment, he said.

The case was being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief, which carries a maximum five-year jail term, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Police also advised the public not to publicise the incident by sharing any photographs or video clips on social media to avoid unnecessary speculation.
