KUALA LUMPUR: A Pakistani man was detained and had his motorcycle seized for riding without his license.
The man, who is in his 50s, was among a number of motorcyclists who were stopped by City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department during an operation on Wednesday (July 5).
City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said since the traffic law compliance operations were launched on Monday 36 foreigners were detected riding motorcycles without valid licenses.
"Within the three days, a total of 7,247 summonses were issued.
"Most of these summonses were issued for obstructing roadways, illegal parking and stopping beyond the white line at traffic lights," he told reporters following an operation near Hospital Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
He advised vehicle owners to not allow foreigners to use their vehicles if they did not have valid licenses.
"It is an offence to allow anyone who does not have a valid license to operate a vehicle under Section 26(1) of the Road Transport Act.
"Those who do so can be issued a summons of RM300," he said.
The 50-year-old Pakistani man who declined to be named said he had bought the motorcycle from a fellow countryman who had gone back to Pakistan.
"I bought the bike a year ago in order to work as a delivery rider for a shop at Masjid India," he said.
