Immigration Dept will support MACC probe

PETALING JAYA: The Immigration Department is giving its full support in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) probe into the alleged corrupt practices and integrity violations of its officers, says director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh.

He emphasised that the department would not protect anyone found guilty and would take action based on the existing legal provisions.

Ruslin was commenting on a number of news reports published on Monday, alleging a few Immigration personnel of being involved in corrupt practices and integrity violations.

“This department is always in contact, in discussion and sharing information with the MACC to help the investigation process be more transparent without any interference from outside parties.

“In this context, the department and Home Ministry will not compromise with any official found to be involved in corruption either at the international airport (referring to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport) or any Immigration offices nationwide,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ruslin said the Immigration Department is committed to improving its Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to provide the best service to the people as well as foreign visitors at the entry-exit checkpoints of Malaysia.
