JOHOR BARU: The Johor Royal Family has donated more than RM123mil during the Covid-19 pandemic, says Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The amount included various types of donations to help about 1.6 million people in the state who faced challenges during the pandemic, he added.
“Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar was willing to take a risk by ordering Johor Palace officers to go to the ground and provide assistance in the form of health kits and equipment for the people’s well-being,” he said.
He was speaking at the Johor Royal Foundation appreciation ceremony and the launch of books and a portal on the Johor Sultanate.
Sultan Ibrahim launched the event at Persada International Convention Centre here on Wednesday (July 5).
Also gracing the event was Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah.
Also in attendance were Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Tun Aminah Binti Sultan Ibrahim and her husband, Datuk Dennis Muhammad Abdullah, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.
Onn Hafiz said the Johor Royal Family has always been at the front line in giving out aid during natural disasters such as floods, storms and fires.
“This also includes aid for education and health in addition to fighting for and protecting the basic rights of women and children.
“The affection and concern from Sultan Ibrahim and the Johor Royal Family created a symbiosis between the palace and the common people,” he added.
Onn Hafiz also expressed his gratitude to His Majesty for his personal donation and assistance through the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation (YSIJ) to the people.
He also expressed his deepest gratitude to Her Majesty who was willing to personally donate to the people through the Raja Zarith Sofiah Johor Foundation and the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation.
“I would also like to express my deep gratitude to Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim for his personal contribution to the people.
“"Leadership like this has been ingrained since the reign of the modern Johor Sultanate because this is Johor, and Johor (will always be) Johor," he said.
