Pakatan and Barisan all geared up for six state elections
PUTRAJAYA: Seat distribution between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional for the impending polls in six states has been settled, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Pakatan chairman said he held a meeting with Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi recently to settle the matter between the two coalitions.
“No issue (of seat overlapping) so far,” he told reporters after launching the book titled Adab Perbezaan Pendapat Dalam Islam here yesterday, Bernama reported.
The six states holding their elections are Selangor, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
On the focus of the unity government for the state polls, Anwar anticipated the success of Pakatan in taking over power in two states and retaining the three existing ones.
“I see that we are strong in three states and we can retain them. InsyaAllah, there is a big chance for us to take over two other states,” he said without naming any.
The three states under Pakatan are Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan while Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are under Perikatan Nasional.
The Election Commission secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said a special meeting would be held today to discuss dates for the state polls.
He said the meeting followed the receipt of notices of the official dissolution from their respective state assembly speakers.
