JOHOR BARU: The Johor royal family donated more than RM123mil during the Covid-19 pandemic, says Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
He also said that various types of donations were made to help about 1.6 million people in the state to face challenges during the pandemic.
“Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar was willing to take a risk by ordering Johor palace officers to go to the ground and provide assistance in the form of health kits and equipment for the people’s well-being,” he said.
Onn Hafiz said this in his speech during the Johor Royal Foundations appreciation ceremony and the launch of the Johor Sultanate books and portal.
Sultan Ibrahim launched the event that was held at the Persada International Convention Centre yesterday. Also gracing the event was Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah.
Also in attendance were Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim and her husband Datuk Dennis Muhammad Abdullah, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.
Onn Hafiz said the Johor royal family had always been at the front line in giving out aid during natural disasters such as floods, storms and fires.
“This also includes aid for education, health and fighting and protecting the fundamental rights of women and children.
“From the affection and concern from Sultan Ibrahim and the Johor royal family, it has created a close symbiosis between the palace and the common people,” he added.
Onn Hafiz also thanked the Sultan for donating and assisting the people through the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation (YSIJ).
He also expressed his deepest gratitude to Her Majesty, who was willing to donate to the people through the Raja Zarith Sofiah Johor Foundation and the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation.
“I would also like to express my deep gratitude to Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim for his contribution to the people.
“Leadership like this has been ingrained in instinct and has been the heartbeat since the reign of the modern Johor Sultanate because this is Johor, and Johor must be Johor,” he said.
