Sabah Entrepreneurship Minister in South Korea until July 11 for working visit


KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Phoong Jin Zhe is currently in South Korea for a six-day working visit, which includes a meeting with one of Sabah's biggest investor companies.

The Luyang assemblyman leads the delegation, joined by officers from related agencies trip from Wednesday (July 5) until July 11.

"The main purpose for the trip is to visit the SK Nexilis factory, which made a huge investment in Sabah.

"The work visit will also see discussions with several potential investors from South Korea who are keen to invest in Sabah.

"At the same time, the programme will be a platform to promote investment to other companies," Phoong said in a statement here on Thursday (July 6).

He added that the South Korea has been a Sabah trading partner contributing 7.1% on exports and 8.6% on imports in Sabah last year.

He further shared plans to discuss with SK Nexilis chief executive officer Yi Jae Hong and the rest of the company's higher management to persuade them to expand their investments and businesses in the state.

Phoong said meetings with other potential investor companies there will also pave way to create more job opportunities in Sabah.

"It is hoped the work visit can attract more investments and form closer business cooperation between Sabah and South Korea, that will indirectly benefit the people of this state," he added.
