MELAKA: Police have detained a 14-year-old boy over the death of his younger brother.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said a nine-year-old boy was found lifeless after he was allegedly strangled at a house at Kampung Bukit Piatu in Bandar Hilir here.
The incident took place at about noon on Wednesday (July 5).
ACP Christopher Patit said the teenager is a student of a school here and had no previous disciplinary problems.
"The suspect is the eldest of four siblings and was staying with his brother when the alleged strangulation happened," he said in a statement on Thursday (July 6).
ACP Christopher Patit said injuries were found on the victim's face, nose and neck.
He said one of the victim's relatives watched a CCTV recording on his mobile phone of the teenager allegedly strangling his brother and alerted the neighbour.
"However, the neighbour found the victim lying lifeless when she entered the house," he said.
ACP Christopher Patit said police have opened an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
He added that the suspect has been detained and would be remanded to assist in the investigation.
