Lorry driver killed in Tawau accident

KOTA KINABALU: A 67-year-old lorry driver was killed when he lost control of his vehicle and drove into a concrete wall along Jalan Ranggu in Tawau on Friday (July 7).

The victim was sent to the Tawau district hospital’s emergency unit by passers-by and was declared dead by medical officers after he was brought in for treatment.

Tawau OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin said police initially received the report at 1.26pm about the victim, who was heading towards the direction of his Jalan Hot Spring house.

“Investigations found the accident occurred around 1.15pm after he left his orchard at Ranggu and was driving home. The victim is believed to have lost control and swerved towards the concrete cliff wall, causing the lorry to roll to its side," he said

“A postmortem will be conducted on Saturday (July 8) to determine the cause of death,” added ACP Jasmin, saying that the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of Road Transport Act 1987 (causing death by dangerous or reckless driving).
