Search ops ongoing for seven-year-old boy feared drowned in Batang Kali

HULU SELANGOR: Search efforts are still ongoing following the reported drowning of a young boy in Batang Kali.

In a statement Saturday (July 8), Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said they received information of a seven-year-old boy drowning at Sungai Desa Alam Ria on July 5.

"Investigations showed that the boy had dived into the river to retrieve a slipper that had fallen, and that he was swept away by the currents of the water.

"Search operations began then and it is still ongoing,” he said.

A total of two police officers and 32 policemen are involved in the operation.

Also in the search efforts are 27 members of the Fire and Rescue Department and a police drone unit.

Search efforts have been expanded to a 20km stretch of Sungai Rasa.

When contacted, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain said the search was broken up into two sectors and that the department's two dogs from the K9 unit, Blake and Pop, were also deployed.
