PETALING JAYA: Changgang, the dog that suffered serious injuries after being shot with a BB gun and left for dead at an oil palm estate in Banting last week, has escaped from a veterinary clinic in SS15, Subang Jaya where it was being treated.
The canine which was kept in a cage is believed to have escaped from the clinic at about 4pm on Sunday (July 9).
Animal rescuer Sani Ng Abdullah who rescued the stray dog on June 29 and named it after the village it was found at Kampung Bukit Changgang told The Star that he was alerted of the missing dog by the clinic's veterinarian at about 6.15pm on Sunday.
"My wife and I were at the clinic at about 3pm to visit Changgang and took some food with us to feed it.
"Just three hours later, we received the bad news. We are saddened that it has gone missing.
"We have launched a search for it together with other animal rescuers. It could not have gone very far and is probably hiding somewhere nearby," he said.
Sani said the dog still had over 20 ball bearings embedded in its body as it was still too unfit for surgery.
"Only one ball bearing was removed and handed over to police for investigations," he said.
The case is being investigated for cruelty and maiming animals under the Animal Welfare Act and Penal Code.
The culprits behind the act have yet to be traced by the police.
The Star reported on July 3 that despite being illegal and posing danger, gas-powered ball bearing guns, also known as BB guns, which resemble real firearms were being sold in ecommerce websites.
Sani urged those with information on Changgang's whereabouts to contact him at 016-611 2777 or animal rescuer Chia Boon Woo at 012-311 1132.
