SERDANG: Firemen rushed to the scene of an early morning fire here but were too late to save a man or the house.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said that when the team reached the scene at Lorong 6 in Kampung Seri Puchong at 2.40am yesterday, they found the fire had already engulfed a single-storey house.
“It was a two-door house that was sitting on a 40x80 sq ft lot classified as a Class B building; about 90% of the house had already been burnt.
“The fire was successfully extinguished at 3.11am and the body of a 37-year-old man was found within,” he said.
Wan Md Razali said the department had received a call about the incident at 2.30am, and subsequently deployed teams from the Puchong, Cyberjaya and Seksyen 7 fire stations to the location.
In another case, search and rescue efforts are still ongoing following the reported drowning of a young boy in Batang Kali days before.
Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said yesterday that investigations showed that the child had dived into a river to retrieve a slipper.
“He was swept away by the current,” he said in a statement.
The police, he said, had received word of a seven-year-old boy falling into Sungai Desa Alam Ria on Wednesday.
“Search and rescue operations began then and operations are still ongoing till today,” he said yesterday.
Supt Ahmad Faizal said the operation involved two officers and 32 policemen as well as 27 members of the Fire and Rescue Department and a police drone unit.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain said two dogs from its K9 unit, Blake and Pop, were also deployed in the search that was broken into two sectors.
