PKR to contest in seven seats in Kelantan, Amanah to take six

KOTA BARU: PKR will contest seven seats in the state elections in Kelantan next month.

The state leadership council (MPN) deputy chairman Syed Mohd Alidustur Syed Mohd Zain said the seven seats were Panchor, Chetok, Mengkebang, Pasir Pekan, Kota Lama, Pasir Tumboh and Limbongan.

“Kelantan PKR has been instructed to open the main operations rooms in the seven seats that we will contest,” he told reporters after the launch of the party’s election machinery and operations room for Panchor here on Friday night.

Syed Mohd Alidustur, who is also the head of PKR’s Pengkalan Chepa division, said that as part of the unity government, Kelantan PKR would support Amanah and Barisan Nasional candidates who are contesting in the election.

“The Kelantan PKR operations room is only open in the constituencies we are contesting. In the areas where there is no PKR candidate, we will fully support the parties in the unity government which will be contesting them,” he said, Bernama reported.

Kelantan Umno information chief Datuk Zawawi Othman previously reported that Barisan would contest 31 seats while Pakatan, which includes PKR and Amanah, would contest 14 other seats. The Kelantan state assembly has 45 seats.

Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan will go to the polls on Aug 12, with nomination day set on July 29 and early voting Aug 8.

Kelantan Amanah chairman Muhammad Husain said his party had been informed by Pakatan central leadership that Amanah would contest in six of the seven seats it requested by.

Muhammad, who is also Kelantan Pakatan chairman, said the six seats were Tawang in the Bachok parliamentary constituency, Demit (Kubang Kerian), Kadok (Ketereh), Pengkalan Pasir (Pasir Mas), Bukit Panau (Tanah Merah) and Tanjong Mas (Kota Baru).

He said another seat was still awaiting the decision of the PH central leadership.

“Amanah has identified candidates who are eligible to be fielded in those seats, candidates involving various backgrounds such as businessmen, lawyers and retired teachers,” he said.
