MUAR: The Johor government has allocated RM15mil to upgrade the Gunung Ledang Waterfall in Tangkak here, says an exco member.
Johor tourism, environment, heritage, and culture committee chairman K. Raven Kumar said the funds will be dispensed in phases this year.
He said the waterfall would also be the first national park in the state to have electric vehicle charging stations.
This move was also in line with the Singaporean government's green energy plan to introduce more electric vehicles in its market by 2025, he added.
"The first phase of our upgrading works has started this year where we have spent RM1mil to upgrade the current store and toilet, roadworks and improve traffic flow.
"A new toilet will be built in September and a new ticket counter and entrance gate will be ready by next year.
"Based on research, the majority of Singaporeans are keen to visit ecotourism areas, so if we provide them with the basic facilities, such as electric vehicle charging stations, we can attract more tourists," he said.
He said this when met by reporters after the re-opening ceremony of the waterfall on Sunday (July 9).
Raven Kumar also said the Johor National Park Corporation (JPNC) had limited the number of visitors to the waterfall to only 2,000 per day.
"This is to ensure safety and maintain cleanliness.
"We also urged visitors to bring their own plastic bags or purchase them from JPNC to dispose of their waste in bins placed in front of the ticket counter," he added.
Meanwhile, JPNC director Taufik Bahar said the entrance fee to the waterfall is set at RM5 for local adults and RM3 for children and the elderly.
He said for foreigners, RM20 will be charged for adults and RM10 for children and the elderly.
