Senior citizen dies in Batu Pahat car-lorry collision


BATU PAHAT: A 62-year-old man was killed in an accident involving a car and a lorry at KM0.8 of the Yong Peng-Parit Sulong-Muar road here.

Batu Pahat acting OCPD Supt Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the incident was believed to have happened at about 1.20am on Sunday (May 9).

"The lorry driver, a 49-year-old man, was heading towards Yong Peng from Parit Yaani when a car from the opposite lane suddenly entered its lane.

"The car then collided with the lorry.

"The car driver suffered serious injuries and was killed at the scene," Supt Shahrulanuar said in a statement here.

He said the lorry driver sustained injuries on his legs and was brought to Sultanah Nora Ismail for treatment.

"We hope those with information about the case could reach out to us to assist investigations," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Badrulhisyam Loi Abdullah said seven firemen were deployed to the scene.

"The victim was found stuck in his car when we arrived. We managed to take him out of the vehicle by using rescue tools.

"Medical officers at the scene later confirmed that the man had passed away," he said.
