Suspect arrested after choking, abusing wife

KUALA LUMPUR: An argument turned violent after a husband choked his wife in a fit of rage.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail, in a statement today (July 9), said a 41-year-old Burmese man was caught after his wife filed a report over the attack.

The incident stemmed following an argument on July 6, after the complainant had sent her child to a clinic.

An argument had occurred earlier over their child who required medical treatment for a skin problem.

"When the treatment was completed, the complainant realised that she had not brought her handphone. She also had to leave the child at the clinic to go home to collect money.

"When she reached home, the complainant had asked the suspect regarding a matter, but he then got angry, and proceeded to scold, choke and beat the complainant,” he said.

A report was then lodged by the victim and a police team arrested the suspect.

Checks showed that the suspect had no prior record and a urine test also showed that he tested negative for drugs.

"A medical exam conducted on the victim showed that she suffered from soft tissue injuries on the left cheek, forehead, left hand and neck areas.

"The cause of the incident has been determined to have stemmed from a misunderstanding from the clinic visit, which led to the suspect being unhappy. Both are United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card holders,” he said.
