Accident near Nilai between tourist bus and car kills two


NILAI: Two people were killed when the driver of a tour bus lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pillar at KM285.3 of the North-South Expressway.

Deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Mat Ghani Lateh said the victims were the bus driver, aged 33, and a 42-year-old Indonesian female passenger.

Five bus passengers were seriously hurt while 15 others suffered minor injuries following the collision.

The bus, DSP Mat Ghani said, was heading to Kuala Lumpur from Singapore when the accident occurred around 5.25am on Monday (July 10).

"The bus first hit the pillar on the right side of the expressway and then collided with a Proton Wira car which was travelling on the left lane.

"The bus driver and a passenger died on the spot due to serious injuries," he said, adding that the driver of the car and his passenger escaped with light injuries.

Apart from five Malaysians, there were four Indonesians, Singaporeans and Filipinos (three each), Canadians (two) and one passenger each from China and Spain on the bus.

DSP Mat Ghani said the injured were sent to the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban for treatment.

He urged eye-witnesses to contact Insp Nor Fadzilah Mohd Zainuddin at 019-4611 794 to assist in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The accident caused a massive traffic jam along the expressway.
