Father of four jailed eight years for robbing senior citizen


KOTA TINGGI: A father of four was sentenced to eight years in jail after pleading guilty to robbing and causing hurt to a senior citizen earlier this month.

Nazry Mohamad Mokhtar, 37, entered the plea after he was charged before Sessions Court judge Hayda Faridzal Abu Hasan here on Monday (July 10).

According to the charge sheet, the accused, who works in an oil palm plantation, robbed Rahmah Md Johan, 60, at a house in Felda Air Tawar 4 here at around 12.40pm on July 2.

He had robbed the victim of a gold bracelet and also caused her injury, an offence under Section 394 of the Penal Code.

The offence carries a jail term of up to 20 years and also a fine and whipping, upon conviction.

Hayda Faridzal then sentenced the accused to eight years in jail and one stroke of the cane.

Deputy public prosecutors Muhammad Irsyad Mardi and Ahmad Khairuddin Khalid prosecuted while National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Hilmi Sulaiman Salahuddin represented the accused.

According to earlier reports, a parang-wielding robber slashed an elderly woman after breaking into her home in broad daylight at the Felda settlement.
