Hadi Awang being investigated for sedition, say cops


PETALING JAYA: The investigation into PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang's statement is focused on sedition and offences under the Communication and Multimedia Act, say the police.

Bukit Aman Crime Investigation Department deputy director (forensic/strategic planning) deputy comm Datuk Suresh Kumar G. Suppiah said the investigation is being carried out under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.

"The investigation is ongoing and the public is advised not to speculate in any way that will disrupt the process," he said in a statement on Sunday (July 9).

"Action will be taken against anyone who threatens the peace and safety of the country," added DCP Suresh Kumar.

This comes after Sentul district police chief ACP Beh Eng Lai said last week that the police have received reports lodged by Amanah and Selangor PKR Youth at the Dang Wangi police headquarters

The reports lodged were in connection with Abdul Hadi’s statement that Perikatan and the Opposition bloc were making plans to topple the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

On the reports, ACP Beh had said that the investigation would be conducted by Bukit Aman's Classified Crime Investigation Unit.
