Head-on crash kills two in Beluran

KOTA KINABALU: Two people were killed and another man was seriously injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles in Sabah's east coast Beluran district.

Beluran district police chief Supt Kasim Muda said those killed included the driver of a sedan and his passenger, both 44.

The 62-year-old driver of a four-wheel drive was seriously injured in the collision that occurred along the Telupid-Tongod road at about 6pm on Sunday (July 9).

Supt Kasim added in a statement on Monday (July 10) that the driver is undergoing treatment after being rushed to hospital by an ambulance.

He said initial investigation at the scene found that the vehicles were travelling in opposite directions.

Police believe that one of the vehicles tried to overtake a third vehicle when it collided with the oncoming vehicle, he added.

He said the investigation was still ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
