‘Malaysia remains committed to ties with Thailand’

BANGKOK: Malaysia is steadfast in its commitment to working with Thailand to strengthen ties and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, says Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Jojie Samuel.

He said the two nations have had diplomatic ties since Malaya’s independence in 1957.

“Rest assured, Malaysia is a good neighbour and a good partner. We are committed to working with Thailand and taking this relationship forward,” he said.

Jojie said Malaysia and Thailand remained confident in achieving the bilateral trade target of US$30bil (RM140bil) by 2025.

He said in 2022, Thailand was Malaysia’s sixth largest trading partner and second largest among Asean countries with a total trade value of US$27.75bil (RM130bil).

“Malaysia exported US$14.97bil (RM70bil) worth of goods to Thailand, mainly electrical and electronic products, chemicals, crude petroleum and LNG.

“Malaysia also imported US$12.78bil (RM60bil) worth of goods from Thailand,” he added.
