Senior citizen, motorcyclist killed in separate crashes near Segamat


SEGAMAT: A 75-year-old man has been killed in an accident involving three vehicles at KM164.8 Jalan Johor Baru-Seremban (Sawah Baru) here.

Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the incident occurred at 4.45pm on Sunday (July 9).

“The victim was heading towards Segamat from Chaah when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle and went into the opposite lane. His vehicle hit the back of another car before colliding with an oncoming (four-wheel drive),” he said in a statement on Monday (July 10).

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene while the drivers of the other vehicles were unharmed, he added.

“We are appealing to any witnesses to come forward to help with the investigation,” he said.

In another accident, a 36-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle at KM133 Jalan Johor Baru-Seremban (Chaah).

“The incident also occurred on Sunday, at 11pm, when the rider suddenly lost control of his motorcycle and went into the oncoming lane.

“The victim crashed into a car driven by a 25-year-old man heading towards Segamat,” Supt Ahmad Zamry said, adding that the driver only suffered a minor injury.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act of 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving.
