She had apparently stayed hidden and did not want to return home after running away following a quarrel at home, and only decided to come out of hiding when she got tired and hungry, said firemen.

It was heard that prior to her running away, she had been in a huge fight with her younger sister, 10, over a pair of shoes.

Her parents were said to have scolded her and she got upset so she decided to leave the house in anger.

Kota Belud Fire Station Chief Muhammad Syazwan Latun said was safely brought home after some villagers saw her not far from where she lived.

"We were told that this is not her first time running away after a quarrel or after she got serious scoldings from her parents but this time, she stayed out longer," he said when contacted.

He said the girl’s father had gotten worried when she did not turn up at home the next morning after leaving the house and decided to call for help for safety reasons.

The girl had run into a forest near her house on Sunday evening and had returned home at around 3.30am but she left the house again when she saw that her family was home.

Over 30 people including firemen, police, civil defence officials and villagers were actively involved in the search of this girl after she was reported missing.
