MORE than 3,000 people from over 100 countries are expected to gather in Kuala Lumpur for the 11th World Tamil Conference to discuss the development of the language globally.

Malaysia Nanban reported that the participants, comprising Tamil thinkers, poets, researchers, writers and others, would be presenting their research papers and works at the event.

The participants are from India, Singapore, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, France, the United States, South Africa and the United Kingdom, among others.

The three-day event, beginning July 21, will be co-chaired by Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar and MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to officiate the conference, organised by Universiti Malaya’s Indian Studies Department.

> The daily also reported that an Indian man from Tamil Nadu has been arrested for stabbing a woman who rejected his romantic interest in her.

The man, Navin, had followed her one day as she was returning home. He stabbed her and fled the scene before being caught a few kilometres away, police said.
