PH and BN not swapping seats in Negri, says Jalaluddin

SEREMBAN: There will be no swapping of seats between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional in Negri Sembilan in the Aug 12 polls, says Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias.

The state Umno liaison committee chairman said there was however a possibility that Barisan may be given one or two more seats to contest.

"There will be no swapping of seats. But if the Pakatan and Barisan leadership decide that we (Barisan) get more seats, this I believe will be announced anytime," he said.

In the last general election, Pakatan Harapan won 20 seats while Barisan won the remaining 16.

Jalaluddin was asked to comment on talk that Barisan was among others eyeing the Lenggeng and Klawang seats which were currently held by Amanah.

“We should not believe rumours all the time. What I can tell you now is that there will be no seat swapping,” he said.

Jalaluddin had also, prior to this, expressed hope that Barisan be allowed to contest 18 seats although the party won only 16 in the last polls.

This, he said, was to allow both Pakatan and Barisan to face the polls on an equal footing and allow Barisan candidates to be fielded in every parliamentary constituency.

Separately, Jalaluddin said Umno was prepared to field its candidate in Jeram Padang which was previously held by MIC as the party has decided against contesting in the state election.

"I will discuss this with the Umno party president and Barisan leadership and if it is agreed, then we will surely field a candidate from Umno there," he added.
