State polls: BN needs to field more new faces, says Ahmad Shabery

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional should field more new faces in the six state elections on Aug 12, says its strategic communications director Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

He said Barisan should offer something "fresher” for the Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan state elections although previous candidates were still considered relevant in certain constituencies.

"We could see that many new candidates were fielded in the Melaka and Johor state elections, and I believe a decision will be made to put up many new candidates,” he said as a guest on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme tonight (July 11).

He said Barisan’s preparations for the polls were progressing smoothly and they would cooperate with other parties in the unity government to make an impact in the seats to be contested.

"We will wait for the final preparations before nomination of candidates, and I believe this election will be different from previous ones.

"The technique will be different, the tactic will be different, and how we present to voters will also be different from the old ways,” said Ahmad Shabery, who is also Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) chairman.

The six states will go to the polls on Aug 12, with nominations set for July 29 and early voting on Aug 8. – Bernama
