PETALING JAYA: Despite deciding to go solo at the upcoming state polls, Muda is looking to contest in all six states, says party secretary-general Amir Abdul Hadi.
“For now, we’re looking at all states. It will be decided by our election committee and announcements will be made in stages,” he told The Star on Tuesday (July 11).
On which seats the party was looking at, he said it would be hard to say for now.
“But we have faith in our candidates and will try our best to fight,” he added.
Asked if he had any specific seats to contest, Amir said it was still in a discussion phase with the party’s election committee.
Earlier this month, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said Muda was targeting to contest fewer than 10% of the seats up for grabs in the state elections.
This follows the party’s decision to contest solo for the state elections.
The Muar MP also appeared unfazed over the possibility of splitting votes among Pakatan Harapan supporters.
Syed Saddiq said Muda’s decision to contest on its own in the six state polls was not due to failed seat talks with Pakatan.
“Because such negotiations do not exist. That is why Muda decided to bring a new form of politics.
“We want to be the voice of conscience of the people and we hope the people will deliver a wake up call to those who are in power - don’t take their votes lightly and don’t think this is a safe deposit,” he added.
The state elections in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan will be held on Aug 12, with early polling on Aug 8. Nomination is on July 29.
