A ONCE-pristine waterfall campsite in Negri Sembilan is now riddled with trash left by visitors, causing anger and frustration among locals and other visitors, Harian Metro reported.
The daily reported that bottles, food containers and even used diapers were an eyesore in the area surrounding the Kampung Sungai Mahang waterfall in Nilai.
First-time visitor Mohd Adzri Abdullah, 52, said he was even concerned for his health after visiting the waterfall.
“I expected a breath of fresh, cool air but instead ended up inhaling the odour of piles of rotting garbage around the waterfall.
“There were plenty of flies and rats, and I was worried about contracting diseases like rat urine disease (leptospirosis),” he said.
Local resident Muhammad Jailani Ahmad Zawawi, 34, said the area became filthy during the Covid-19 movement control order (MCO).
“Many Nilai residents and families frequented this waterfall during the MCO to kill time as it was impossible to travel to other popular recreational areas like Port Dickson.
“Many of them have since made it their go-to leisure spot, but regrettably, most of them irresponsibly leave behind their trash after visiting,” he said.
Another visitor, Muhammad Maula Mohd Kamal Bahrin, 32, said he was disgusted at the state of the waterfall.
“Visiting this place in the middle of the day and seeing many dogs digging for food among the piles of garbage is disgusting,” he said.
> The daily also reported that Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin has cautioned netizens against scammers impersonating her and other celebrities online.
She said scammers had used old photos and videos of her performing live to create fake social media accounts of her which they would then use to try to dupe people.“These accounts post old videos of me or other celebrities performing on stage to pretend that it’s live in order to convince people that it’s an official account.
“They will then pretend to offer cash prizes in the comments section, which require users to fill their personal information like bank details, which they then immediately use to steal money from the bank account.
“Some of them even photoshop old pictures of me or others onto posted ads promoting sketchy products that they sell which ruined the names of the artistes involved,” she said.
She said such scams had become increasingly worrying in recent years.
