Woman nabbed over baggage scam at KLIA

SEPANG: A woman has been detained for allegedly duping a victim out of about RM4,000 at the KL International Airport (KLIA).

KLIA OCPD Asst Comm Imran Abd Rahman said the suspect had approached the victim at level 3 of the airport on the pretext of asking for help to settle her excess baggage charges at about 2pm on May 21.

"She promised the victim to pay the sum back via online banking.

"The victim was convinced and handed over RM4,000 cash to the suspect," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 11).

After the money was handed over, the suspect went missing, he said.

"Investigations led police to detain the suspect at level 5 of the airport on June 28.

"We have completed the investigation and the Investigation Paper (IP) has been handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor," he said.

ACP Imran said the suspect is expected to be charged at the Sepang Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (July 11).

"She will be charged under Section 417 of the Penal Code," he said.

He said the police welcomed information from the public on commercial crime cases.

"Cooperation from the public is vital to curb commercial crimes such as scams in the district," he said.
