Dengue cases in Melaka up compared to same period last year


MELAKA: Melaka has recorded 265 dengue fever cases from Jan 1 to July 8 this year, which is four cases more than the 261 recorded over the corresponding period in 2022, says Ngwe Hee Sem.

The Melaka health, human resources and unity committee chairman said of the total, 28 cases were recorded from July 2 to 8 compared to 15 cases during the same period in 2022.

No deaths from dengue has been recorded in the past two years, he said on Wednesday (July 12).

Ngew said 18 dengue hotspots were identified during the 27th Epidemiological week (ME27) from July 2 to 8, with two still active.

He noted that the active hotpots are Taman Melaka Baru Section Two with four cases and Taman Kota Laksamana with two cases.

On Covid-19 cases, Ngwe said there were 70 new cases with one death during ME27.

He said the Covid-19 cases saw a decline of 17.6% compared to 85 in the same corresponding period in 2022.

Ngwe said 1,242 cases of variants of concern and variants of interest were monitored during ME27.

He added there are no new clusters up to July 8 in the state.
