Elderly man pleads guilty to shooting, killing cows

JASIN: An elderly man pleaded guilty to two charges of shooting and killing five cows at the Magistrate’s Court here.

The plea of Midon Lambak, 79, was recorded before Magistrate Mohd Firdaus Saleh on Wednesday (July 12).

However, the court deferred the sentencing to allow the prosecutor to produce the weapon - a 12 Beretta A303 semi-auto shotgun type-used in the shooting.

Based on the facts of the case, Midon had allegedly shot the animals using the shotgun at 7.30am at an oil palm plantation in Felda Bukit Senggeh, Nyalas in Asahan, Jasin district on April 15.

He was charged under Section 39 of the Firearms Act 1960 that provides imprisonment for up to one year or a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both, if found guilty.

Midon also faced another charge under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief by killing or maiming animals that carries a jail term up to three years, and a fine or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Hanis Aliah Ahmad Kamarulnajuib prosecuted while Midon was unrepresented.

The court granted a bail of RM6,000 for both the charges and fixed July 17 for sentencing.

Midon had allegedly shot the cows after being infuriated with the cattle owner for allowing the animals to trespass into his plantation.
