SHAH ALAM: The RM10bil i-City will play a more significant role in accelerating Shah Alam’s journey into a global city by adding vibrancy and inclusivity to its development.

The Malaysia No. 1 Technology City is aiming to achieve a footfall of 17 million by the end of December, of which five million visitors are expected between October and December.

Some 20 to 30 years ago, Shah Alam was only seen as an administrative centre, surrounded by a mono-ethnic community and factories.

Today, Shah Alam is all set for an urban regeneration that will transform it into a global city with world-class facilities, and i-City has played a significant role here.

The people, events and activities make i-City what it is today.

Lightscapes enhancements are made throughout i-City with the addition of leisure facilities such as a 50,000sq ft Digital Sports Arena, Aerodome, enhanced digital lights, 5-D snow experience centre, and immersive and interactive features at the Red Carpet 2.

Also emphasising ESG practices, i-City would play its part and uplift the local cultural, eco, social and micro enterprises through this programme.

There are plenty of spaces available to explore opportunities to grow together and create a more inclusive environment at i-City to benefit the community and contribute towards the socio-economic progress of the capital city of Selangor, Shah Alam.

Those interested can approach i-City with their proposal on how their initiatives can positively impact Shah Alam.

According to DoubleTree by Hilton Shah Alam i-City general manager Gagan Talwar, the hotel is one of the top Hilton hotels in Malaysia collaborating closely with i-City on this One Shah Alam One Destination programme.

“The City of Digital Lights, Central i-City Mall, Mercu Maybank and offices within i-City make it a unique destination. There is just only one 5-star hotel in Shah Alam with amenities of international standards,” he said.

Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers KL and Selangor branch chairperson Mag Ng said Selangor is an economic driver of the country and the One Shah Alam One Destination programme should be able to attract more people to Shah Alam.

“We have some 1,700 member companies here that can benefit from this programme. We were impressed with the facilities and smart infrastructure available during our last meeting here recently,” she added.
